We are very hard with our corporate offices and a design team, along with contractors to make sure that we can have our rooms to the highest possible standard for future guests. We are very aware that our rooms are in need of attention and renovations. I apologize that you did not enjoy your stay with us. The door at the top is frankly disgusting it is so dirty but that only matches the adjacent tired and stained ice machine.Located in Historic Downtown Savannah, Eliza Thompson House, Historic Inns of Savannah Collection is adjacent to Savannah College of Art and Design and within a 5-minute walk of other popular sights like Forsyth Park. Leave the room and go back into the hotel via a metal staircase with more old, chipped black paint with rust showing through. The whole room is tired and shabby but not shabby chic. The coffee mugs are cold, the plates are cold so your food and drink is warm at best. There are electric fires but in near freezing temperatures it remains unpleasant. The metal framed doors have old and chipped paint, there are plastic sheets over them so there are big gaps where the cold comes through. When we left I took the gratuity envelope and had pleasure putting it in the rubbish bin! If the weather is warm or hot you would have breakfast outside in a courtyard, in cold weather you are in a small side room. No apology, no personal visit from him, no explanation but we did have a fifty dollar credit on our account. She told me he'd come back and gone out again. We waited and after 30 minutes when he hadn't come I went back to the receptionist. She didn't offer to make up the room but brought us a stack of clean towels and told us she would report it to the Inn Keeper who was out but would be back shortly. I went and told the receptionist who looked amazed. We were very surprised to find the room had not been serviced. On our last full day we went out and came back late afternoon. Neither did the artificial plant on the mantle shelf, the leaves were thick with dust, the flowers also. Clearly the floor under the bed doesn't get cleaned very often. I also saw a thick level of dust, somebody else's white socks, a single black sock and a used cotton bud. To recover it I took out a small torch I always carry with me and soon saw it. On day 3 my wife's slipper went under the bed which was on polished wooden floor boards. Mine had a handle missing, when I pulled on the other one it came off and fell on the floor! Each day the cleaner put a white envelope on the bed soliciting a gratuity which I took off and put on the side cupboard. Each side of the bed there were two small drawers. All this could have been avoided if simple and totally quiet electric convector heaters had been provided. ![]() One night we tried to do without it and ended up putting sweaters and towels on the bed to try and stay warm. I've noticed that a lot of other visitors have commented unfavourably on these old units. The shower unit is old with controls so stiff my wife had to ask me to operate them. The fittings in the bathroom are old and tired. That became very apparent when you realised there was no heating in the bathroom which was freezing in the morning. We were there for several nights during a time when the night time temperature was close to freezing. At first sight it's elegant and stylish but that was a veneer. ![]() We had a bedroom just off the reception area. Go up the steps to the front door and the two lights either side have dirty glasses, the door has some chipped paint and brass door plates that have never been polished. These good points are frequently mentioned by other reviewers so I will not repeat them. The plus points are its location, the style and character of the original building and the nightly serving of complementary drinks and canapés.
